MAYA TrioDate: Sunday, August 31, 8pm
MAYA offers the uniquely compelling and driven combination of flute, harp and percussion, performing classical and new music, world music, and incorporating improvisations into its performances. MAYA's concert features a treasury of music from around the world including a traditional Hungarian Romani piece, a Sephardic song of love lost, their version of Arab Dance from The Nutcracker, and an homage to the whirling dervishes of Turkey. This richly colorful program also includes music from China, the Middle East and the U.S, works by J. S. Bach, Tan Dun, and Ravi Shankar. MAYA brings two rapidly-rising young star composers Alexandra du Bois, and Xi Wang to the Catskills. MAYA's recent CD, In The Spirit, captures the exotic allure of this energized and virtuoso group.
