In Full Bloom

The newest exhibition at the Catskill Mountain Foundation Fine Crafts and Art Gallery, now known as Kaaterskill Fine Arts, is a group show of stunning botanical paintings, photographs and prints by contemporary artists from our area and from further afield. This impressive show opens to the public on Saturday, May 24th, with an artist's reception from 4-6 p.m., and runs through June 16th.

The artists in the show include Allen David, an internationally recognized artist of paintings, sculptures and tapestries who has exhibited widely in the US, the UK (including the Tate Gallery in London), Israel and Australia. He now lives in NYC where he continues to paint, design tapestries and write books. Jonna Espey, an avid naturalist and yogi, she brings an original technique to the medium of watercolor. Her current series of watercolors presents her unique vision and intense connection with nature. Katharine Pollak is a photographer and master photographic printer working in New York City since 1985. Her subjects include documenting rural life in hamlets and small towns in the Northwest; New York City; and still life, particularly botanicals. Ray Sherman, sculptor, designer, and photographer, has been making black-and-white photographs since 1965. Ray and his wife, Hélène, own The Corner Bookstore in Manhattan, soon to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Recent projects include making paper sculptures and designing a series of lamps, which are represented by the Atea Ring Gallery in Westport, NY. Benjamin Swett, the author of Route 22, is a New York-based photographer specializing in the nature and architecture of cities. Also the author and photographer of the book Great Trees of New York City: A Guide, his photographs have appeared in The New York Times, Conjunctions, Parabola, books, brochures, annual reports, and other periodicals. Mafalda Cento has exhibited her artwork in numerous art shows throughout the tri-state area including Staten Island, Manhattan, Long Island, Brooklyn, Upstate New York and New Jersey. In addition many of her works are in private collections throughout the US, Italy, England, France and the Bahamas. Her paintings have been praised for their expressive quality and her watercolors for their fluid and loose approach. Besides these fine artists, other members of the group are Lisa Frank (whose image Day Lilly appears above), Thomas Lindley, Elaine Ralston, Chuck Tomajko and Nancy Wendroff.
