An almost forgotten story about Joe Hill and the time when work was hard and faith was strong.

DANIEL RUDHOLM, Swedish independent musician and leader of the music-spectacle group SLAVA TEATER, teams up with Dan Rothenberg and Dito van Reigersberg of PIG IRON to create an all-acoustic whistlestop tour of Swedish immigrants, union martyrs, Seventh-Day Adventists and lost souls. Joe Hill was the forerunner of Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Billy Bragg and Bruce Springsteen; Sweet by and by features his wickedly funny Union songs on banjo and concertina, all the while following his journey from Sweden to California to a Utah jail on trumped up charges and on to Mars, where all good Union Leaders go to die. A one-man multimedia, semi-autobiographical hootenanny tour-de-force.
