“Enchanted Forest” by Paula Friedman Paula Friedman was a Special Ed teacher working with the blind and visually impaired and had never been interested in photography. It became her passion when she got her hands on a digital camera right before she retired four years ago. She says, "something clicked, it was like something bubbled up that had been waiting there all along. It was like I was always taking pictures without a camera and my experience translating the visual into the textural got transferred to photography." In the four short years that she's been taking pictures Paula has already been in several group exhibitions and two solo shows (one with the Upper Catskill Community Council of the Arts at the Wilbur Mansion in Oneonta and the other at the Anam Cara Gallery in Binghamton). Her photographs frequently appear in Kaatskill Life magazine as well. You can see more of her work at www.poeticlenses.com, a Web site she operates with her partner, Beth Benjamin, featuring photographs paired with captions. back to October 2008
